The good news is that periodontal infection is treatable. Advances in periodontal treatment allow Dr. Foley and her staff to effectively treat most infections. However, the success of your treatment is very dependent on you doing your part. This includes following Dr. Foley's instructions and not delaying treatment.

You'll probably need to see Dr. Foley more often, because now you have a serious dental problem which tends to advance in bursts of activity. From this point on, it is very important that you closely follow her instructions, which may include more frequent dental cleanings; additional oral hygiene instructions; and specific periodontal treatment.

If your infection has progressed past a certain point, you may be referred by Dr. Foley to a Periodontist. If this referral is made, it is important that you make an appointment to see the Periodontist as soon as possible.

The good news is that, in most cases, the progress of periodontal infection can be stopped with prompt treatment. The gums and bone around your teeth can then be saved from further damage.
